PSA Group has long recognized that an automatic gearbox requires different torque and power characteristics. The auto adaptive triple mode 'fuzzy logic' gearbox means that it is both faster and more economical. It also produces significantly lower emissions.
Developed by PSA Group, the automatic gearbox draws on the latest in manufacturing technology, computer software, electronics and, in particular, fuzzy logic. The four speed automatic offers the driver a choice of three modes, Normal, Sport and Snow/Slippery.
Beyond this each of the programmes has a further ranges of programmes it can use to provide the driver with the optimum gear changing solution for both his personal requirements and the driving conditions. These are chosen and mixed by the fuzzy logic software, so called because it takes decisions by classifying a very wide range of parameters in descending order of importance even if they are uncertain or contradictory.
The software also operates to minimize exhaust emissions by working in constant communication with the engine's control and management system and it has a complete service, error recording and limp home mode. It can even detect when the P407 is going down a hill and provide engine braking as required.
Automatic with manual override – Porsche's Tiptronic
Porsche's Tiptronic was the earliest semi-automatic transmission offered by a major car maker. First appeared in 1990 in 911 as an option, it soon became available in 968, Boxster and licensed to Audi and Mitsubishi for production. Meanwhile, Honda, BMW, Chrysler and Toyota also developed their own version.
Based on an automatic transmission with torque converter, besides conventional auto mode it offers a manual override allowing the driver to shift by pushing the shifter forward and backward. Note that it is no quicker than a conventional auto. It only intends to enhance driving fun through involving the driver.
In manual mode, the computer may intervene under harmful conditions. For instance, if the driver let the rev exceeding redline without upshift, the computer will shift automatically.
Tiptronic was developed in conjunction by Porsche, ZF and Bosch. Porsche originated the idea, ZF made the gearbox and Bosch responsible for the electronic control.

Wheels Alignment and Balancing


Wheels alignment and balancing can be done very easy at almost all tyres shop. Computerised alignment machine used with Peugeot 407's wheels alignment data is required. Poor wheels alignment i.e. angle of wheels ( toe and camber) can be adjusted straight away without additional items to be installed. Most of the car esp. Japanese and local brand with McPherson Struts need additional "special bolt and nut " in order to adjust camber. Peugeot 407 not required this things to be installed, not need to spent for this extra things which is cost at least RM250 for 1 pairs of this item.

Tyres balancing can be done through 'on wheel balancing" on most tyres shop, I am still looking for shop that have facilities to do off wheels balancing.
Peugeot 407 - The Introduction
Debuted back in 2004, the new Naza's assembled Peugeot comes with twin-cam 2.0 litre, variable valve timing and improved output of 140bhp/6000rpm and 200Nm/4000rpm of torque. The four speed automatic branded as a 'Porsche Tiptronic System.
The standard equipment includes 17 inch alloys with ABS, EBD & Brake Assist, automatic Xenons, seven airbags, a 10 speaker JBL Hi Fi audio system with MP3 and 6 CD changer, dual zone climate control, cruise control, electric front seats and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), reverse and front park sensor,immobilizer security system, auto rain viper. Different in two variant, standard and premium is the extra equipment of factory fitted GPS system and also leather seats.

407 Tyre Pressure

My 407 is using Michelin Pilot Exalto 215 55 ZR17 94W, with max tyre pressure 350kPA.
The best tyre pressure after i tried many pressure so far is 240kPA for all tyres.
With 240kPA the car performs better in term of handling, less pressure may sacrifices handling and stability degraded. This can be feel when i driving my car. Remember that this car is equipped with ESP, correct tyre pressure will help ESP compute for optimum result.
Factory specified presure is 260kPa for front and 240kPa for rear tyres. With 260kPA the will feel hard and rough, lessen the comfort feeling due to louder tyres noise when running at rough and uneven road surface.
I set my front and rear tyre pressure at 240kPa, this is about 8% pressure reduction. From what i read from the trusted source, tyre pressure shall not below than 10% of specified pressure by the car manufacturer. Because of my 407 is superb in handling, car tyre pressure is important to compliment the stability system.
Speednavi GPS Map Update part 2


Speednavi update part 2 available on November 2009. With enhanced features on the window the current Sat. nav. GPS is better than previous. The major things are:
1. Speed limit icon appear when cruising on major highway like NKVE & north south highway. Speed limit icon turn red and warning sound appear if the car exceed the limit. This may annoying also for some driver.
2.Show the road lanes in front and the lanes direction - right/left lanes.
3. Indicate rest area in front with km to reach.

Change automatic transmission fluid at 40K KM


Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) or ATF oil was changed at 40,000km. ATF recommended by Peugeot is ESSO 4HP20 AL4. ATF change requires about
3.1 to 3.5 liters. Service centre analyzed the ATF sample that taken out from the gearbox. I was told that the analyze is to get the content of carbon accumulated in the ATF for the period of running interval.
There is no dip stick for ATF, however if newly filled ATF is not enough the engine will show the warning of low level ATF.
